These worked great on my 7lb NB, using flats and prefolds. (I did not use NB prefolds - there is enough room in the covers to fold over the tops of regular prefolds.) She is now 12lbs and about ready to move on to a bigger cover. The leg gussets work very well, I had very few blowouts with these.

I had other diaper covers originally for my newborn but a couple of them had leg holes that were too wide and caused leaks. I like that these are snug and that they fit my baby at 7 pounds 7 ounces.

These are nice covers but they run a little big in my opinion. I have an 8lb baby and she is swimming in them on the smallest setting (it is easy for the dipe to cut off circulation when all the snaps are adjusted to the smallest setting) I don't see how this would work on a 4-6 lb baby.

My Favorite Newborn Cover
Never had a leak with these and with the two snaps you can adjust the belly and the legs differently if your baby has chubby thighs like mine! When compared to other brands you can really tell how high quality these are. They feel very sturdy and hold up in the wash. Mine still look brand new after months of heavy use.

This is a good cover. It is the one my husband always reaches for first. We have the snap and the velcro. I like this cover but it isn't my favorite. The elastic in the back and around the legs is a little tight compared to my thirsties covers. My baby is about 13 pounds and can still wear these.
