The size of a prefold actually refers to the layering of the fabric. The prefold diaper is divided lengthwise into 3 sections. The middle sections need the most absorption so it has the most layers. The 2 outer sections have less to make it easier to fold around your baby and fasten it. If the prefold is 4x8x4 this means there are 4 layers of cloth on each side and 8 layers in the center.

Using prefolds is the most economical alternative for diapering your baby and they are very effective! You will need a diaper cover to put over the prefold to hold in the wetness - you don't want a wet lap!

Nicki's Diapers sells traditional diaper pins to fasten the diaper. You may want to try a Snappi Fastener as an easy alternative.

Features of
Indian Prefolds:
  • Soft, durable and extremely absorbent Indian prefolds .
  • Indian cotton is known in the industry to be the very best material used to make prefolds.
  • Made from 100% heavyweight cotton twill.
  • Indian prefolds are not only stitched with high quality thread but the stitches are also reinforced.
  • All Indian prefolds are put through a special process to eliminate pilling.
  • Allow 5-10% shrinkage when these cloth diapers are washed.
  • Wash and dry cloth diapers 3-4 times before using and cloth diapers will become thick and absorbent.
  • Diaper service quality (DSQ) (very durable - will withstand many washings and dryings).
  • Unbleached Indian prefold diapers need to be washed in very HOT water and with a a little extra detergent (ex. Tide) to strip the oils from the fabric making them thick and absorbent.
  • Indian prefold diapers are available in White, Unbleached, and Organic .
  • White prefolds: chlorine-free! whitened with a peroxide bleach solution maintaining a low pH level to help avoid any skin allergies. We still recommend washing prefolds at least 3 times before using.
  • Unbleached prefolds: natural color free of any whitening process. We recommend washing and drying them at least 4-5 times on HOT before using to help strip the natural oils and make them absorbent.
  • Organic prefolds: made with certified 100% organic cotton and are a natural color. We recommend the same prepping/washing instructions above for the unbleached prefolds.
  • Please notice that when you receive your Indian prefolds they will be stiff and very flat however after you wash them they will become very soft and quilt. The picture above is of WASHED prefolds. The more you wash and dry your prefolds the more absorbent and soft they will get!

***Please note that using the sanitize cycle or washing in water above 120 degree will not only cause excessive wear and tear on your diapers, but it will also cause them to shrink and quilt more than the below dimensions states***

  • TIP: Make sure all of the Indian prefold diaper is tucked into the diaper cover to avoid unnecessary leaks!

Diaper Pins are available for those parents who like to pin their cloth diapers!

Snappi Diaper Fasteners are available too!

We searched globally for the BEST material including researching and testing Chinese prefolds. The material we chose passed our testing with flying colors as well as customers! The only difference between Indian vs. Chinese prefolds is where the material and diaper is sewn. It is all the same type of material. The main difference in quality, performance and feel is how the material is weaved and sewn. This differs from factory to factory more so than from country to country.

unbleached newborn and infant sizes
These are great diapers. You can't beat the price, especially with free shipping! My daughter is now 16lbs & 8 months old, but the newborn size is still working well! They are perfect for trifolding in a cover for a super trim fit. We like to use them with our flips and peachy greens. I even added snaps so they function as an ai2! They are plenty absorbant for her, she can wear the newborn size for 2-3 hours including naps and no leaks. The infant standard size is thicker but still trim fitting. Paired with a geffen hemp booster they are great for night time too. I could go on and on, but you get the point. Just get some, you won't regret it!

Great choice
I have been using these almost 8 years. I buy 3-5 dozen and wash 2-3x/wk. I use them with prorap covers. They do deteriorate over time with the center layer getting holes and wearing thin, then I replace them and use the old ones for rags. You can not beat the value for the money. I have cloth diapered in them for 3 kids, my first 4 years, second 2.5 and now 3 years so I had 9.5 years of diapering in them and I have only replaced my largest size stash maybe twice. I think you shouldn't think twice, buy these.

They pill :(
I would say after a few washes they began to pill... I bought 2 dozen regular size and they all do it. I asked about the condition and if its normal and they said it could be because of hard water. I have other ones that were bought from Craigslist and are holding up way better than these. Same type unbleached indian prefolds just not pilling. I hope with more washes it will stop piling. They are great size I use a doubler to hold more pee and that does great.

quality products
Bought some of the organics for my youngest daughter, then the white for my eldest; both types are absorbent and of good quality. They work well as diapers or burp cloths, and I'm keeping a stash at home for when grandchildren visit. Great product for a reasonable price, and Nicki's can't be beat for free shipping. The only niggle is how often these prefolds are out of stock, but if you find them, buy them.
